The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has announced plans to appeal a court order issued by Justice Isa Dashen of the Federal High Court in Bayelsa State against its Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.
Justice Dashen ruled that Olukoyede risks imprisonment for allegedly refusing to comply with a ruling in favour of Bliss Multinational Perfection and Oyinmiebi Bribena, CEO of Baraza Multipurpose Cooperative Society.
The court had declared the EFCC’s seizure of their properties as unlawful, stating they were not proceeds of crime.
EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale expressed surprise, saying the Commission was not informed of the judgement date, which amounted to a denial of fair hearing.
He also confirmed that the EFCC would appeal the decision, noting that a previous court ruling involving the same defendants was already under appeal.
The defendants had been accused of involvement in a Ponzi scheme, defrauding over 123 victims of N2 billion.
