The Presidency has dismissed claims by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) that President Bola Tinubu broke a promise to keep fuel prices stable.
A media aide to President Tinubu, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, described the NLC’s accusations as “dirty politics” and denied that any such promise was made during discussions with labour leaders.
Abdulaziz, who attended two meetings between the President and labour leaders regarding minimum wage negotiations, clarified that no agreement included a fuel price hike.
In a tweet, he stated, “At neither of the meetings was an offer made in exchange for a fuel price hike. Ajaero is once again playing his dirty politics with the emotions of Nigerians.”
The NLC had accused President Tinubu of betraying Nigerians by raising fuel prices despite an alleged promise to maintain stability. The union claimed that a guarantee of stable fuel prices was a key condition for accepting the N70,000 national minimum wage.
