Six people have been killed and several others injured in two separate attacks by armed herdsmen in Benue State’s Agatu Local Government Area.
The assaults, which took place on Friday evening, targeted the Iwari and Olegagbane communities. According to a local source, one person was killed in Iwari, while five others lost their lives in Olegagbane.
The source described the attacks as part of a pattern of intermittent violence by armed herdsmen in the region.
Agatu LGA Chairman, Phillip Ebenyakwu, confirmed the incidents and expressed concern over the ongoing violence, which has displaced over 2,000 people from seven villages.
Despite some relief materials provided by the State Emergency Management Agency, Ebenyakwu said it was insufficient to meet the needs of the displaced.
