The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has vowed to shut down the country if its national president, Joe Ajaero, is detained or arrested by the police.
The decision reached at its emergency National Executive Council meeting which was held in Abuja with some other executives joining virtually resolved to allow Ajaero honour the invitation by the police.
Ajaero was invited by the police for an “interview” at the IRT Complex in connection to charges including “criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, reasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.”
Earlier, on July 7, security agents raided the NLC national secretariat in Abuja, arresting security guards and seizing keys to offices. The police claimed responsibility, stating the raid aimed to uncover documents linked to an international “subversive” figure.
But the NLC rejected the police’s explanation, demanding the release of its members and documents, and condemned government interference in the union’s internal affairs.
