The Lagos State Taskforce has removed illegal shanties, roadside vendors, and confiscated 2,000 litres of petroleum products in a clean up operation along the Mile 2 Oke section of the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
This was revealed in a statement by the Agency’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Abdulraheem Gbadeyanka.
Gbadeyanka explained that the exercise was necessary to address the growing problems caused by roadside vendors and the proliferation of shanties, which have led to severe traffic congestion, increased traffic-related robberies, and environmental degradation.
He noted that the spread of shanties has also created a breeding ground for criminal activities, endangering the lives and properties of motorists and commuters.
Gbadeyanka added that the roadside vendors were found to be illegally selling petroleum products, and those arrested will face legal action, with the confiscated items seized to prevent further dangerous practices.
The cleanup is part of the ongoing efforts by the Agency’s Chairman, Adetayo Akerele, to safeguard the environment in line with the state government’s agenda.
