The South Africa National Department of Health has reassured the public that there is no need for concern regarding the declaration of the Mpox, commonly known as monkeypox, outbreak as a public health emergency.
This comes after the Africa Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention declared the outbreak a public health emergency on the continent.
Health Department spokesperson Foster Mohale assures that the country’s situation is stable, stating that the department will update the public about the effects of the World Health Organization and CDC’s announcement.
Mpox is transmitted through close contact and causes rashes, flu-like symptoms, and pus-filled lesions. The disease can be dangerous for children, pregnant women, and those with suppressed immune systems.
