Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Olukayode Ariwoola is set to retire next month as he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 70.
A valedictory court session will be held on his birthday, 22 August, during the Supreme Court’s vacation.
This was disclosed by the Head of Information and Communication at the Supreme Court, Akande Festus, on Monday.
Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, 66, is expected to succeed Ariwoola as CJN.
Ariwoola’s 43-year legal career includes roles as state counsel, legal officer, and private practice before joining the bench.
He served as an Oyo State High Court judge from 1992, was elevated to the Court of Appeal in 1995, and joined the Supreme Court in 2011.
With 32 years in the judiciary, Ariwoola is currently the longest-serving Supreme Court justice, having spent 11 years on the court’s bench.
