Imo East Senator, Francis Onyewuchi has left the Labour Party (LP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio announced the defection during Tuesday’s plenary session.
Onyewuchi cited factions within the LP at national and state levels, as well as leadership conflicts, as reasons for his departure.
He pledged support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
This defection increases APC’s Senate membership to 61, while the opposition parties now have 48 members combined. The Labour Party’s representation has dropped to six senators.
Earlier, a House of Representatives member from Kogi State, Salman Idris, also defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the APC.
