Eighty five year old Alberto Fujimori who governed Peru from 1990 until 2000 has announced his intention to run for president in the 2026 elections of the country, despite a legacy marred by corruption scandals and human rights violations.
His daughter, Keiko Fujimori, who has unsuccessfully run for president three times, revealed the news.
The candidacy of the 85-year-old ex-president, who was released from prison in December is fraught with legal and political uncertainties due to his previous convictions.
