The federal government has appealed to the Nigerian media to show respect to the constitution and tenets of democracy by actively joining the fight against fake news and misinformation.
Speaking at a press briefing, the minister of information, Mohammed Idris said some news outlets have stirred controversy over the Samoa agreement signed at the Organisation of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS) Secretariat in Brussels, Belgium on June 28, 2024.
On his part, minister of budget and national planning, Atiku Bagudu explained that the agreement was nothing but a vital legal framework to promote sustainable development, fight climate change and its effects, generate investment opportunities, and foster collaboration among OACPS Member States at the international stage.
SOME reports have documented the reactions of clerics, civil society organisations (CSOs) and human rights activists condemning the signing of the Samoa Agreement by the Nigerian government saying it attempts to promote LGBTQ, transgenders among others.
