President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday inaugurated the National Assembly Library and Resource Centre in Abuja, a landmark event coinciding with the first anniversary of his administration.
The centre, bearing Tinubu’s name, is envisioned as a hub for knowledge management, legislative research, and digital archiving.
The Executive Secretary of the Centre,Mr. Henry Nwawuba, emphasized the library’s role in preserving legislative activities and supporting lawmakers and staff in critical thinking and innovation.
He highlighted the temporal nature of parliamentary environments, where legislators come and go, and underscored the importance of documenting and managing their contributions for future reference.
The library boasts a comprehensive digital setup, including a robust E-library and various facilities like a multi-purpose hall.
The General Manager of Dumez Nigeria Limited, Mr. Georges Nehme, discussed the architectural features, noting that the design incorporates eco-friendly elements such as glazed elevations and roof skylights to maximize natural light.
“The library offers a serene environment with advanced automation, audiovisual technology, and a cost-effective cooling system,” Nehme said, highlighting Dumez’s commitment to creating a unique and sustainable structure.
President of the Nigeria Library Association (NLA), Mr. Dominic Umokaro, lauded the new library as a significant achievement for the library profession. He stressed the importance of fostering a reading culture to develop future leaders committed to research and innovation.
