The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 1,607 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) to the rank of Superintendents of Police (SPs). The promotion exercise saw the elevation of officers across various cadres, including the Professional and General Duty cadres.
Of the total promoted officers, 158 belong to the Professional cadre, with 105 from the Communication unit, 22 from Transport, 10 Medical officers, nine Nurses, nine from Works, six Workshop Officers, three Maritime officers, and one each from the Medical, Dental, and Band units.
The remaining 1,423 promotions were in the General Duty cadre.
The PSC Chairman, Dr. Solomon Arase, stated that the Commission has restored the dignity of the Specialist cadre in the Nigeria Police Force. He emphasized that the Commission will continue to provide equal opportunities to all cadres, putting an end to the era where Specialists were stagnated in one rank.
However, he warned the newly promoted officers against undermining the ethics, rules, and regulations guiding their conduct, stating that the Commission would not hesitate to discipline any officer found culpable.
Arase also cautioned the officers against involving themselves in land matters, rent recovery, and other minor issues that could be resolved through alternative dispute resolution or legal processes. He urged them to concentrate on assisting the nation in the fight against insurgency and banditry, emphasizing that the Police is the lead agency in internal security.
Some of the promoted officers include Tochukwu Anthony Ikenganyia (Public Relations Officer, Anambra State), Bright Edafe (Public Relations Officer, Delta State), Clement Ominiyi Awoyemi, Salami Ganiyu, Dogo Mathew, Finedon Akah, Attahiru Umar, Adamu Wakili, Constance Katu Ekeh, Nuhu Danjuma, and Yaha Bashir.
The approval has been officially communicated to the Inspector General of Police for implementation.
