The Lagos State Government has released a traffic advisory ahead of the annual Access Bank Lagos City Marathon scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday February 10th between 5am and 2pm. Several roads will be temporarily closed to motorists during the event.
Routes unavailable to motorists during the marathon include:
– Funsho Williams Avenue from Stadium, Surulere
– Ikorodu Road to Anthony
– Gbagada to Third Mainland Bridge
– Third Mainland Bridge inbound and outbound
– Dolphin Road to Alfred Rewane Road
– Falomo Roundabout to Bourdillon Road
– Lekki Bridge to Freedom Way
– Akin-Adesola to Ahmadu Bello Way
For drivers’ convenience, the following alternative routes will be available:
Motorists headed to mainland Lagos can utilize Apongbon bridge inwards via Eko bridge, Costain Roundabout, Iponri and Bode Thomas. Alternately, take Eko Bridge through Costain and Apapa Road to connect to Oyingbo/Jebba and access Herbert Macaulay.
For island navigation, motorists can go through Victoria Island, link Independence and CMS bridges to access Apongbon inwards via Ijora-Olopa, Iddo and Oyingbo, then connect to Herbert Macaulay Road.
The Third Mainland Bridge will be completely shut down from 12 midnight until the marathon ends. Only outbound journeys from Ikorodu Road and Funsho Williams Avenue to Lagos Island are exempted from diversions.
Transport Commissioner, Oluwaseun Osiyemi stated LASTMA officers will be deployed to manage traffic flow at diversion points for motorists’ safety. He advised motorists without urgent business along marathon routes to avoid the areas, adding traffic will return to normal on the Third Mainland Bridge immediately after the race concludes.
