The Supreme Court has ruled in favour of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat as Governor and Deputy Governor of Lagos State.
Justice Garba Lawal who read the lead judgment dismissed the appeal filed by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour against the victory of the APC and Sanwo, while ruling that his deputy, Hamzat was duly qualified to contest the election, since it was evident that he was a citizen of Nigeria by birth.
The Court also dismissed the petition filed by Candidate of the PDP, Abdulazeez Adediran, describing it as a pre-election matter and therefore lacks merit, reaffirming the election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.
Meanwhile, Governors of Plateau, Bauchi, Kano and Zamfara states have arrived the Supreme Court in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, as the apex court delivers verdicts in the governorship election disputes involving at least eight sitting governors elected last March and sworn in on May 29, 2023.
