President of France, Emmanuel Macron has nominated French Education Minister, Gabriel Attal as the new prime minister to replace the outgoing premier, Elisabeth Borne.
A statement from the President’s office said Macron had tasked Attal with forming a government
34-year-old Attal who takes over from Borne who resigned on Monday evening will become the youngest French prime minister in history as well as openly gay.
Prime ministers in France have a very subordinate position to that of the president and as heads of government generally follow the political course laid out by the head of state.
