U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has welcomed the extension of the temporary truce between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas, saying the arrangement has produced results and the United States hoped it would continue.
Blinken who arrived Tel Aviv late last night said Washington was focused on helping to secure freedom for hostages taken by Hamas and foster lasting solution to conflicts in the region.
According to Blinken, the COP 28 is another avenue for world leaders to discuss world pace and the current increase in tension and strains in diplomatic ties among nations in Europe, the war in Ukraine and global action plan on the economic front.
In the meantime, Israeli soldiers have raided the neighbourhood of Sur Baher in occupied East Jerusalem and broke into the house of the two Palestinians suspected of perpetrating this morning’s shooting.
An initial investigation conducted by the police indicated that two gunmen, armed with an M16 rifle and a handgun, arrived at a bus stop at the entrance of Jerusalem where they started shooting at civilians. The attackers were killed at the scene.
