Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Imo State, Athan Achonu, on Thursday led supporters to protest against the outcome of the November 11 poll at the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
Achonu accompanied by the National Youth Leader, Kennedy Ahanotu, accused the electoral umpire of playing double standard in the November 11 off-cycle election and demanded the Certified True Copies of the election results it conducted in Imo State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Governor Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the election, having polled 540,308 votes to beat Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party who scored 71,503 votes while Achonu could only secure 64,081 votes.
The results have since been rejected by the LP and the PDP who alleged that there was widespread electoral malpractices, voters’ intimidation and other alleged irregularities.
