Israeli President Isaac Herzog said a very strong force may need to remain in Gaza for the near future to prevent the Hamas militant group re-emerging after the war, but U.S. President Joe Biden warned that occupying Gaza would be a big mistake.
In an interview today, Herzog said a vacancy will be left behind if Israeli defense forces pull out, adding that it is assumed that the United States and neighbors in the region would have some involvement in the post-conflict order.
Earlier, President Biden had made it clear to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that a two-state solution was the only way to resolve the Israel-Palestinian conflict and that occupying Gaza would be a big mistake.
In the meantime, the united nation security council has passed a resolution calling for urgent and extended resolution for humanitarian aid, immediate and unconditional release of hostages, although U.S and U.K abstained for the move.
Meanwhile Israel and Hamas have rejected the council’s resolution.
