The minister of education, Tahir mahman says education in Africa should be a major cause for concern and a rally point for all leaders across the region, stating that the sector is the bedrock of success in any sphere.
Mahman said this today at the International Literacy Day, with the theme Promoting Literacy for a World in Transition: Building the Foundation for Sustainable and Peaceful Societies.
According to him, the celebration is a wakeup call for the government to identify challenges in the education sector and ensure the eradication of such challenges to avail young Nigerians, opportunity to quality education.
International Literacy Day is celebrated to remind the public of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights, and to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society.
