Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah on Friday refused to appear before the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal despite being subpoenaed through his lawyer.
Mbah was summoned following an application by counsel to the People’s Redemption Party, PRP, Alex Amujiogo challenging the absence of the governor from court in a case of alleged certificate forgery.
Amujiogo who berated the governor for dishonoring the subpoena, stated that the court session was his last opportunity to close his case, while appealing to the court to come to his aid.
However, the lead counsel to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Anthony Ani (SAN) argued that the governor was ready to appear before the court, but the service of the subpoena did not comply with the provisions of the law.
Subsequently, Chairman of the tribunal, Justice K. M. Akano adjourned the case till Saturday, for the Independent National Electoral Commission to open its defence.
